Grand Opening of Channel 6 ABC’s New Studio

February 27, 2010

In September of 2009 Eventions Productions was chosen to supply the lighting and audio for the opening celebration. A top of the line team compromised of Uniquely Philadelphia, STARR Catering, Table Art, Eventquip and the staff at Channel 6 ABC worked together for this amazing event which had in attendance local and national network personalities, Disney executives, celebrities and local government officials.  A massive old tree was the focal point of the patio on the side of the building and therefore became the focal point of the event. Eventquip constructed a tent built around the tree with it going right through the top of the tent! Michael Sardanopoli designed an awesome glass stage around the tree to allow guests to see the full magnificence of it.

We provided a hidden JBL line array system to provide crystal clear audio for our Lucite podium and the 60 person gospel choir and accompanying 10 piece band.  Our lighting designers also provided some dramatic tent and stage lighting to bring the tent to life. It was a challenge to balance the needs of HD television lighting (BRIGHT) with proper atmospheric event lighting. Also installed were over 60 light fixtures to highlight the surrounding landscape and to allow for the guest’s safe departure to their cars at the end of the night.

Things don’t always go as planned!!!

About 15 minutes before the event started, the company that installed the fabric liner in the tent (company not mentioned above) had a cable fail, causing ½ of the fabric ceiling to fall to the ground. This is not their fault, their work was proper – sometimes things just break. Never scared to get their hands dirty, Ed Knight, owner of Eventquip grabbed his “Oh Sh** Kit” which is kept in every one of their trucks. The team of Ed, with Eventions President, Brian Toner, sprung into action and with MacGyver-like skills, a few ladders and the correct tools, reinstalled the liner in about 7 minutes allowing the event to continue.
